Get Down Lines
A Get Down Line is a great tool to have in your tack collection.
👉 Originally designed to be used as a lead when the rider dismounts. A Get Down Line is a great option for those that don’t like to ride with a halter under the bridle and much better than using the reins to lead.
👉 Use a Get Down Line to keep the horse with you in the field for a quick groom, pick feet, give a syringe, etc. This is my personal favourite way to use the Get Down Line.
👉 A Get Down Line can also be used to keep a connection to the horse when doing groundwork. A lightweight option that, for me, feels like a step right before working at liberty.

For lengths up to 15 feet
$50.00 each for 8Round or 8x4Round patterns $40.00 each for 4Round pattern Additional cost for longer lengths will be added accordingly. Canadian funds, no tax to add, just shipping to get it to you. |
*** CAUTION MUST BE USED ***
Typically, the Get Down Line is tied high up on the horse’s neck with a knot that doesn’t slip, such as the Bowline Knot. The Bowline Knot is easy to tie and WILL NOT SLIP when tied properly. It is imperative the knot does not slip.
Do not leave the horse unattended. Make sure the horse knows to give when pressure is applied to the Get Down Line. Remember that every piece of tack will not work for every horse.
Consider your horse’s personality and please use common sense when using this, or any, piece of tack.
Safety first...always!

But What Do I Do With It When I’m Riding?
When the rider is mounted, the Get Down Line can be:
- Tucked under the rider’s belt (not tied!)
- Doubled half-hitched around the horn
- Coiled and tied to the saddle with a Saddle String or Snap Alternative.

Daisy is wearing the Get Down Line shown at left. I use this Line a lot to bring her in from the field for a quick groom and a carrot. Or to keep her with me in the field to give her a syringe. Works great!

The Bowline Knot is a very useful knot that is easy to tie. It is great for securing one end of a rope to almost anything. An easy way to remember how to tie it is: 1) The rabbit comes up out of the hole 2) around the tree and back down the hole Thanks to www.netknots.com for this great picture tutorial. I've added the black wording with arrows. |
