Braided Nose Band Side Pulls
Do you have a headstall that you love to use but would rather ride bitless??? Attach the Braided Nose Band Side Pull to your current headstall and ditch the bit...ride bitless!
**IMPORTANT**: You'll need to shorten the cheek pieces of the headstall so that the Braided Nose Band Side Pull is sitting just below the cheek bones on the sides of the horse's face. **
Not all headstalls can do this easily so please check yours to be sure.
Note: Be kind to your horse! If your horse isn't used to a side pull this may feel different to him. Help him understand where the pressure is coming from and what it means by working with him from the ground first, before mounting up.
I get asked from time to time about how the horse stops in a side pull when there is no bit. I found this quote on a FB page I follow.
I don't know who Dr. Jahiel is but I like what she has to say here.
“By giving up the use of the bit, you don’t sacrifice any control but you DO make it less likely that the horse will bolt, buck, or bite
because of mouth pain. One of the great myths of horseback riding is that the bit stops the horse. The bit does NOT stop the horse.
A bit can hurt a horse, frighten a horse, cut through its tongue, or otherwise damage the horse. A bit can be used to signal a horse,
crudely and harshly or gently and lightly, depending on the skill of the rider. But no bit ever stopped a horse. All the bit can do
is to tell the horse that you would like it to stop … and you can say this WITHOUT a bit.”

You will need to...
1) Remove the bit from your headstall. Works with both english- or western-styled headstalls! 2) Attach your headstall to the metal rings of the Nose Band Side Pull. 3) Attach the reins to the rings (metal rings or rope rings depending on chin strap style chosen.) 4) Adjust length of cheek pieces on headstall so nose band sits just under the cheek bones on the sides of the horse's face. See picture at right for desired placement. 5) Adjust chin strap. If your horse is more sensitive, use less pressure. If the horse is just learning or needs more guidance, start with more pressure and decrease from there. There are videos on the Ima Rein Maker Facebook page that show: 1) how to attach the Nose Band Side Pull to your headstall; 2) how to adjust the Plain Chin Strap; 3) the reason for 2 rings vs 4 rings. Build your own Braided Nose Band Side Pull. It's just 4 easy steps... Step 1: Choose a nose band pattern from the selection below Step 2: Choose a chin strap style from the selection below Step 3: Choose the colours from the selection shown here Step 4: Place your order here or use the form below All rings and buckles are stainless steel. "Merry Christmas Lorie! I finally got a chance to try the nose band on Shiloh today! I have to do a minor adjustment on the knots but it fits amazing and looks fantastic. She was really responsive using this as opposed to her last bitless bridle and it doesn’t leave marks either. I think she is truly happy in her new bridle! Thank you so very much!" ~ Marcy RD >>>><<<< |
Martina G. sent me these pictures of her beautiful horse wearing BNBSP26.
